Gullas back to work after recovering from COVID-19
CEBU CITY, Philippines — Talisay City Mayor Gerald Anthony “Samsam” Gullas returned to work after 14 days of isolation for contracting the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19).
The mayor posted on his Facebook page on Thursday, February 25, 2021, that he has now officially gone back to work after he has been cleared by his doctors, who also told him he is less likely to infect others.
“For transparency sake, I asked my doctors after the 14th day, ‘makatakod pako sa akong pamilya (will I infect my family) doc when I get home?’ My doctor told me that according sa studies. 96 percent of covid patients are no longer infectious after 10 days. 98 percent are no longer infectious on the 14th. And 99 percent on the 21st. And 100 percent on the 28th,” the post read.

“I have no more symptoms and have been deemed fit to work by my doctors. But my doctors and I decided, that while I can continue with my daily activities, igka 21 days lang before ko mu uli ni Rhea. Naa man gud bata sa balay (I will return to Rhea after 21 days because there’s a child at home.),” said the mayor.
Experiencing the virus himself, Gullas said he has now a deeper understanding of how the pandemic is affecting the city and how to move forward with it.
He said that he has appreciated the frontliners more after his COVID-19, experience especially the medical workers.
“[What’s important now] is how we balance health and economy. How we can help our doctors and nurses who work day and night to keep everyone safe? I am a true witness of how our doctors and nurses work when [in the] hospital. So how do we balance?”
“First of all, I’m humble enough to say that the government cannot do it alone. We can set guidelines and we can implement protocols. But as I always say, the government cannot be in all places at once,” said the mayor.
Gullas urges the public to cooperate by continuing to follow health protocols and being self-aware when going out and going home after.
The mayor will be back in his office by next week since the City Hall is closed until February 26, 2021 for the holiday for disinfection. /bmjoDisclaimer: The comments uploaded on this site do not necessarily represent or reflect the views of management and owner of Cebudailynews.
