Lapu’s Naki Warriors moves up to 6th place in PCAP online chess tourney
CEBU CITY, Philippines— The Lapu-Lapu City Naki Warriors capped off a flawless performance in the ongoing All-Filipino Conference Professional Chess Association of the Philippines (PCAP) online tournament last Wednesday, February 24, 2021.
This after, the Naki Warriors woodpushers won all their scheduled matches. They first defeated the North division’s seventh-seed Pasig City King Pirates by scoring 11.5 over the latter’s 9.5 points. They then trounced Quezon City Simba’s Tribe in the second match,12-9.
The Naki Warriors now has 10 victories coupled with 11 defeats. Most importantly, they improved from 7th to 6th place in the south division standings, dislodging erstwhile sixth placer Mindoro Tamaraws (8-13, win-loss card).
The Naki Warriors is manned by National Master (NM) Merben Roque, Bryle Arellano, Cristy Cabungcag, Odilon Badilles, Robeo Resuera, Neil Adrian Gilig, Aldwin Daculan, and Kraig Quinain.
Meanwhile, the Toledo City Trojans, the highest-seeded Cebu-based team, had contrasting performances on last Wednesday’s virtual woodpushing action. This after, they finished their first match with a lopsided win over the north division’s bottom-seeded Cagayan Kings,13.5-7.5. But they hit a brick wall in the second match after losing to the north division’s second seed Laguna Heroes,3-18.
However, the Trojans remained in fourth place in the south division’s latest standings with 12 victories and 8 defeats. The Trojans is composed of International Master (IM) Rico Mascariñas, Glicerio Pardillo Jr., Jinky Catulay, Bonn Rainauld Tibod, Christopher Tubalado, Rommel Ganzon, Ronald Ganzon, Rogelio Enriquez Jr, Jean Jean Gacang, and Richard Natividad.
On the other hand, the two other Cebu-based squads, the Cebu City Marchers and Cordova Dutchess Dagami Warriors, faltered in their respective matches. The Marchers got beaten by Cavite Spartans in the first match and Isabela Knight Raiders in the second match. The Marchers are currently placed at 10th with 4 wins and 17 losses.
The Dutchess Dagami Warriors fell short against Manila Indios Bravos and the Spartans in the first and second matches respectively. They are currently placed at eighth with six wins and 15 losses.
The next action will be on March 3.
