Truck helper killed in Dalaguete road accident

CEBU CITY, Philippines — A truck helper was killed when he was ran over by a dump truck along the national highway in Barangay Poblacion, Dalaguete town in southern Cebu on Tuesday morning, March 2, 2021.

Police identified the victim as Rodel Casiong, 40, a resident of Barangay Sangi Highway, Minglanilla town, also in Cebu.

Police Staff Sergeant Jeffrey Simaringa, the investigator-on-case of the Dalaguete Police Station, said in a phone interview with CDN Digital that they identified the victim through his COOP identification card.

Based on investigation, Simaringa said that Casiong got hit by the truck while he was trying to cross the road. The truck, which was on its way to traversing to Oslob town from Toledo City to deliver sand,  was driven by Jerney Rosalita, who is 29 years old and from Barangay Poog in Toledo City.

Simaringa said there was no proof that the truck driver was intoxicated while driving or was speeding.

Police said they are still trying to contact the family of the victim since the owner of the construction company where he works at said he is originally from Dipolog City.

The body of the victim is currently at a funeral home while police are still trying to contact his family.
