Standhardinger traded to Ginebra for Slaughter
MANILA, Philippines— Barangay Ginebra has traded away center Greg Slaughter to NorthPort in exchange for Christian Standhardinger.
The trade, which was approved by the PBA trade committee on Thursday, March 4, 2021, officially ended Slaughter’s fruitful stint with the Gin Kings, which turned sour after his abrupt sabbatical last year.
Slaughter announced that he will be stepping away from the PBA as his contract with Ginebra expired in January last year shortly after the Gin Kings won the Governors’ Cup crown, leaving head coach Tim Cone and the team’s management in the dark about his plans.
But when Slaughter came back from the US, he said he wanted to suit up again for the PBA’s most popular team and also apologized to the Ginebra’s top brass for the way he ended things.
Cone revealed last month that Slaughter had signed a new deal with the Kings, expecting the big man to join practices when it resumes.
Slaughter, who once played college hoops with the University of the Visayas (UV) in Cebu, was even seen going through some drills with Japeth Aguilar at Ginebra’s practice facility a few weeks ago.
But it seems that Ginebra management was determined to move on from the strained relationship, dealing away Slaughter for the 2017 number one overall pick by San Miguel.
The Beermen shipped Stanhardinger to the Batang Pier in 2019 and acquired Moala Tautuaa.
