CEBU CITY, Philippines – The Lapu-Lapu City Government has extended to another week the implementation of the mandatory wearing of a face shield for Oponganons who will go out of their residences.

The said policy was supposed to be implemented today, March 18, 2021.

According to Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Junard “Ahong” Chan the one-week extension was done so that the city and barangays will have enough time to distribute face shields for free to their constituents.

Earlier, Chan said that they will implement the mandatory wearing of face shield only to selected areas in the city, such as malls, public transport, banks, and other establishments.

“Our strategy is like this, kanang naa sa mga market we will give face shield, kanang naa sa mga mall tagaan na’g mga face shield, kanang nagsakay sa mga tricycle, kanang naa sa mga bangko, gi-required mana sila,” Chan said

Aside from this, Chan said that they will also strictly implement the policy first to the top 10 barangays with the most number of cases of COVID-19.

“Ato nang gi-identify ang mga barangay unsa tong naay daghang COVID. Moadto ta kung asang dapita, asang sityoha nga daghan ug kaso, adto ta mo-focus didto para dili mo-spread ang virus,” he added.

Those who will be caught violating the said policy will have to pay the fine of P1,000 or do community service, Chan said. /rcg
