Philippine College of Physicians-CV: Upcasing charge vs AHC staff ‘disheartening’
CEBU CITY, Philippines – Medical personnel of the Adventist Hospital-Cebu (AHC), who were accused of upcasing by the National Bureau of Investigation in Central Visayas (NBI-7), received the needed support from the Philippine College of Physicians – Central Visayas (PCP-CV).
In a statement released on Sunday, July 4, PCP-CV said, going to court would not have been necessary if the “misunderstanding” between the NBI and concerned hospital personnel was immediately resolved.
Making a public announcement on the charges filed against AHC personnel was also unnecessary. At the same time, this was “disheartening” and “demoralizing” to all medical practitioners who risked their lives in the fight against the coronavirus disease, it added.
“The surge last year was most terrible for all of us. Many have sacrificed their safety, health and time to care for others. There were many unknowns yet we pursued and continued to serve. Thus, misconstruing doctors in committing fraud is disheartening and demoralizing, considering the emotional, physical and mental stress in managing patients during the pandemic,” part of the statement reads.
“We believe that there is a proper venue to discuss misunderstandings without subjecting anyone to public judgment. Still, we trust that truth will always prevail and justice will be appropriately served,” it added.
Meanwhile, PCP-CV also called on other medical practitioners to remain strong and steadfast while they continue their fight against the pandemic and to continue to support one another.
“In diagnosing and caring for our patients, it is imperative that we continue to strive to provide care that is updated to the latest evidence, as well as ensuring that public health is not compromised. We hope to continue with this duty and responsibility without being maligned unjustly,” read the statement.
