Cebu-based chess teams resume PCAP battle
CEBU CITY, Philippines—Four Cebu-based pro chess teams will resume their online chess campaigns in the ongoing Professional Chess Association of the Philippines (PCAP) Wesley So Cup Conference on Wednesday, July 7, 2021.
The Lapu-Lapu City Naki Warriors, who are at eighth place in the south division standings with eight wins and 21 losses, will have the toughest assignment among the four.
They are set to face the top-ranked Camarines Soaring Eagles (24-5) in their first match and then take on the No. 3 team, the Iloilo Kisela Knights (23-6), in their second match.
The Naki Warriors are looking to bounce back from their dismal outing last Saturday, July 3, where they lost all two of their scheduled matches.
Meanwhile, the highest ranked Cebu-based team, the Cordova Dutchess Dagami Warriors, (24-5) who are at second place in the south division standings, will play against the No. 7 team, the Palawan Queen’s Gambit (9-20), and the No. 10 squad, the Mindoro Tamaraws (7-22).
The Toledo Trojans, who are currently at sixth place in the standings, will go up against the No. 5 team, the Zamboanga Sultans (17-12), and the Surigao Fianchetto Checkmates (7-22), who are 11th in the standings.
Like the Naki Warriors, the Trojans are eager to redeem their two consecutive losses in their preivous scheduled matches.
The Cebu City Machers (8-21), the No. 9 team in the south division will also face the Fianchetto Checkmates in their first match and will proceed to play against the No. 4 team, the Negros Kingsmen (23-6).
