CEBU CITY, Philippines — Cebu City Mayor Edgardo Labella may be returning to the City Hall soon.

He posted an image on his Facebook page as he conducts a meeting with department heads in preparation for the end of his medical leave.

The mayor has been off work for almost a month now since he was hospitalized on July 13, 2021, due to pneumonia.

“I am still on the road to recovery and I thank everyone for their well wishes. But I also ask everyone to stay safe and get vaccinated against COVID-19,” said Labella.

City Administrator Floro Casas, Jr., said that there is no definite date yet for the return of the mayor, but they expect his return this month.

The mayor was meeting the department heads to be apprised of the city’s situation and the concerns surrounding the COVID-19. surge.

Casas said that the mayor’s instruction to them was to handle the surge and provide as much assistance to Vice Mayor Michael Rama during these trying times.

Rama is currently serving as acting mayor on behalf of Labella.

As for Rama, he said he has not talked with the mayor yet and he has no plans to visit the mayor’s home.

“I wish they would invite me,” he said.

For now, he is focused on handling the pandemic in Labella’s absence, he said.    /rcg
