Show of force in Council for SRP resolution

Cebu City Hall department heads, barangay captains crowded the Cebu City Council session hall as they awaited the approval of the council resolution authorizing Cebu City Mayor Rama to sell portions of the South Road Properties (SRP).

Cebu City Administrator Lucelle Mercado said she issued a memo to all department heads to attend the council session and show support to the draft resolution that will authorize the mayor to sell SRP lots through a public bidding.

The draft resolution was listed as item 48 in the agenda but department heads arrived as early as 9 am. City Civil Registrar Evangeline Abatayo said she received a call from Mercado last Monday.

Mercado’s memo was sent to her office later in the afternoon.  Mercado said her memo was not mandatory. It only encouraged the presence of department heads during the session.

Team Rama allied barangay officials led by the mayor’s cousin and Basak San Nicolas barangay chairman George Rama arrived at the legislative building session hall to also show support for the passage of resolution.

Among those in attendance are Inayawan barangay chairman Lotlot Ignacio and Pobacion Pardo barangay chairpersons Alethea Lim who both ran for councilor under Team Rama in last year’s election.

Catered lunch is being prepared for department heads and barangay officials at the legislative building session hall.
