An off-duty police officer was wounded after one of the two men he accosted shot him in the back yesterday in Lapu-Lapu City
PO1 Exequiel Melodia II, 32, of the Lapu-Lapu City Police Station 3, was rushed to the Mactan Doctors Hospital.
Investigation revealed that Melodia went out to buy a pack of cigarette. When he passed by a hamburger kiosk, he noticed two suspicious-looking men with a motorcycle with no license plate number.
He approached them and introduced himself as a police officer, but one of the men suddenly pulled out a gun. Melodia grappled for the gun but it went off hitting his back.
Melodia managed to pull out his service pistol and returned fire but the two suspects managed to flee.
He remains confined in the hospital and is due for surgery to take the bullet out of his body.
