Rising Cebuana netter Jana Marie Pages is slowly making her presence felt in the Philippine Tennis Association’s (Philta) National Age Group rankings after she barged into the top 10 of the Girls 18-under division as of November 30 this year.
The top player of B.R.I.G.H.T Academy, Pages, who is fresh from winning a gold medal in the 5th Milo Little Olympics National Finals, garnered 740 points all from local tournaments to secure the No.10 spot in the premier division.
Pages won titles in several national age group competitions including the 2013 Palawan Pawnshop-OTR regional age-group tournament, the 1st leg of the PSC-Philta Visayas Age Group and in the recent Cebuana Lhuillier tournament at Baseline.
Snaring the top spot in the Girls 18-Under division is Maika Jae Tanpoco with 6,788 points, all coming from international age group meets.
The basis for the Philta rankings is the Philta points scored from the best 10 tournaments participated in by the player plus International Tennis Federation (ITF) points minus penalties.
Among the international tilts that the 18-year-old Tanpoco has joined are the recent $10,000 Solo tennis tourney in Solo, Indonesia last July 2013 and the Fed Cup 2012 at the Shenzhen Luohu Tennis Center in Shenzhen, China last Feb 4, 2012.
In second spot is Roxanne May Resma, who has 3,770 points; Khim Iglupas ranked No.3 with 2,270 points while Maia Bernadette Balce took the No.4 spot with 1,975 points.
Katrina Orteza completed the top five with 1,635 points.
Marian Jade Capadocia, who retained her Open Women’s title in the 32nd Philippine Columbian Association (PCA) Open tennis championships last Dec. 8 is at the No.6 with 1,575 points followed by Maria Dominique Ong (7th, 1,460 pts), Erika Manduriao (8th, 1,060 pts), Andrea Nicole Amistad (9th, 790 pts) and Pages.
The Boys 18-U division top 10 are; Alberto Lim Jr. (5,662.5 pts), Jurence Zosimo Mendoza (4,012 pts), Eric Olivarez Jr. (1,622.5 pts.), Dave Sebastian Mosqueda (1,052.5 pts.), Andrew Joshua Cano (1,025 pts.), Argil Lance Cañizares (910 pts.), Francis Dominic Lanzado (855 pts.), Marcen Angelo Gonzales (730 pts.), Betto Orendain (805 pts.) and Miko Al-Rashid Ringia (730 pts).
