Gullas urges Cebu south mayors to push road widening

By: Victor Anthony V. Silva August 31,2014 - 08:17 AM

Rep. Gerald Anthony “Samsam” Gullas asked Cebu mayors yesterday to draft a resolution asking Public Works and Highways Secretary  Rogelio Singson to continue with the road widening of the highway in southern Cebu.

He and his grandfather former Rep. Eduardo Gullas said the expansion from two lanes to four lanes was needed to attract investors to the south, whose economic growth is lagging behind the north.

They appealed to the League of Municipalities in the Philippines (LMP) Cebu chapter to add their voice to this cause.

Secretary Singson last Aug. 6 directed  his  staff in  Cebu  not to widen the road in Carcar anymore or cut trees even if they have a permit, but rather focus on other options in road design like flared intersections.

The elder Gullas said the DPWH road  widening project would benefit 23 towns and 3 cities in the south by widening a 16.8 km stretch of N. Bacalso from barangay Tinaan in Naga to Carcar City.

Gullas said he already secured P236 mllion from the national government from 2011 to 2014 for the road and that his grandson was “committed to finish the project until its final completion.”
