Only half of the road concreting projects earlier promised for Cebu City by Secretary Rogelio Singson of the Department of Public Works and Highways was approved for funding.

Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama confirmed this after meeting with DPWH Undersecretary Romeo Momo early this week. “Only less than P200 million projects were approved. But it’s better than nothing,” Rama told reporters.

The approved road concreting projects for implementation include: A. Soriano St. worth P55 million, D. Gaisano St., Benedicto St. and 13th Ave. worth P55 million, Don Leon Kilat St. at P25 million and Dona Modesta St. at P20 million.

The projects will be funded under the Department of Tourism (DOT)-DPWH Convergence Program in which roads leading to tourist spots in Cebu City will be developed.

Other projects that weren’t approved include: asphalt overlay along Escario St. (P19 million), road concreting projects in Legaspi Extension St. (P23 million), T. Padilla St. (P38 million), and E. Sabellano St. (P58 million).

Rama said he was assured by Momo that these projects will be included in the DPWH’s budget for 2015. Last April, Rama discussed the projects with Singson in Cebu City.

The projects are supposed to be part of the city’s preparation for its hosting of the Asia-Pacific Economic Conference (APEC) meetings next year.
