President Aquino has approved the promotion of Commo. William Melad, commander of the Philippine Coast Guard Central Visayas District, to rear admiral, a two-star rank in the country’s uniformed services.

Melad recently took his oath before Transportation Secretary Jose Abaya with the Headquarters Coast Guard Ready Force giving him arrival honors as he reported to the PCG headquarters in Manila.

Melad is a member of Philippine Military Academy Class Matikas of 1983 and a graduate of Master of Science in Maritime Safety Administration at the World Maritime University.

In interview with Cebu Daily News, Melad said he will be winding down his Central Visayas tour of duty as he is set to assume a new position at the PCG headquarters.
