P12.7M drug bust in Minglanilla
CEBU CITY, Philippines — Police in the region said that they will not rest on their laurels until they put an end to the drug menace in Central Visayas following a successful P12.7 million drug haul in a drug bust in Minglanilla town, Cebu on Sunday night, December 5, 2021.
Police Brigadier General Roque Eduardo Vega, regional director of the Police Regional Office in Central Visayas (PRO-7), said this as he congratulated policemen for this drug haul in Minglanilla town, wherein they confiscated around 1.8kilos of ‘shabu’ amounting to P12,750,000.
Police Major William Homoc, chief of Minglanilla Police Station, identified the arrested suspect as Eric Lapeña, 39, a resident of Sitio Mutra, Brgy. Tisa, Cebu City. Lapeña was arrested in barangay Tungkil in Minglanilla town after police conducted a buy-bust operation against him.
Homoc identified Lapeña as a High-Value Individual in terms of illegal drugs. They also recovered from the suspect the P15,000 marked money used during the buy-bust operation.
Homoc further added that this was a follow up operation from a buy-bust operation they conducted three days ago. He added that Lapeña’s alleged source of drugs is in Manila. However, he begged off to disclose further information pending their investigation.
The suspect is now in the custody of Minglanilla Police Station for selling and possession of ‘shabu,’ which is a violation of Republic Act 9165, known as the Comprehensive Dangerous Drug Act of 2002.
Police continue to track down the possible cohorts of Lapeña in this illegal activity.
Lapeña, for his part, refused to disclose further information about his involvement in illegal drugs.
