Chinese official impressed by VDRC relief operations, pledges more help

MANDAUE CITY, Philippines — The Chinese Consul General in Cebu has visited the Visayas Disaster Resource Center (VDRC) in Upper Tabok, Mandaue City on Tuesday, December 28, 2021, to seee how relief operations are being conducted.

Consul General Jia Li, Chinese Consulate in Cebu, visited VDRC to see the situation on how the Department of Social Welfare and Development in Central Visayas (DSWD-7) are moving things to address the needs of the people.

Li admired the effectiveness of DSWD-7 in repacking food packs for families affected by super typhoon Odette.

He also appreciated DSWD-7 for being able to mobilize 150 volunteers to help expedite the processing and packing of relief goods to be distributed to the typhoon victims.

“The effectivity of their work is very, very good and very high,” said Li.

The People’s Republic of China is expected to give assistance to DSWD-7 to be given to the typhoon victims.

DSWD-7 regional director Rebecca Geamala said China has already given sacks of rice to other regions.

Geamala is thankful to the Consul for visiting the production and she is looking forward to the assistance they will be giving to the agency so that they can help more people especially those affected by the typhoon.

Li said they are in constant communication with the National Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council and DSWD-7.

Li hoped that with their efforts to help, the people affected by the typhoon can recover faster.

“Chinese and Filipinos are brothers and sisters. After the disaster we cannot just stand by and just watch what happened, we need to help in whatever we can. Hopefully with our efforts to help the affected individuals, they can recover and stand on their feet as soon as possible. We are willing to stand with the Filipinos to help overcome this difficulty and disaster,” said Chinese official. /rcg
