Capitol mulls buying gensets for all barangays in Cebu province
CEBU CITY, Philippines — Cebu Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia is planning to purchase generator sets to be distributed to all barangays in the province.
In a report by Sugbo News, the Capitol’s media arm, Garcia announced during her visit in Balamban town on Dec. 28 that the Capitol would be allocating funds in the 2022 budget to procure generator sets.
Garcia added that the provincial government was aiming to provide at least one machine to every 1,066 barangays in the province.
In doing so, the governor hoped it would cushion the impact of scarce water supply especially in the aftermath of calamities such as typhoons.
She cited the pre-disaster response the municipality of Alcantara implemented in which the local government provided houses with wells at least one generator set to pump water from wells.
As a result, constituents were still able to access water despite the blackout they experienced after the onslaught of Typhoon Odette.
Alcantara is a fifth-class town located approximately 95 kilometers southwest of Cebu City.
On the other hand, the Capitol has also shelled out another round of financial assistance for residents in Odette-stricken areas.
Garcia announced that they would be setting aside at least half a billion pesos to further help local governments in their rebuilding efforts.
Specific amount and details have yet to be determined as the province continues to assess the extent of the damage Odette has left.
Cebu province remains under a state of calamity.
