Lapu-Lapu, Oarai sign sister city partnership

LAPU-LAPU CITY, Philippines — The Lapu-Lapu City Government has signed a sister city partnership with the Oarai City of Japan.

Mayor Junard “Ahong” Chan of Lapu-Lapu City and Oarai City Mayor Yutaka Kunii signed the partnership on Friday morning, May 20, 2022.

The Japanese mayor has also expressed his gratitude for the partnership, after seeing the scenic and historical city of Lapu-Lapu.

“I am getting in love with the Philippines and I want to know more about Lapu-Lapu,” Kunii said in Japanese that was translated by one of his officials Shogo Kawwbata.

During the partnership signing, Chan showed a video clip of the City’s scenic spots. He promised Mayor Kunii and his 4 officials to tour them in those places on Saturday, May 21.

Chan also warmly welcomed Kunii and his officials and assured their safety while in the city.

After the sister city partnership signing, both Mayors exchanged gifts and had group photos of Lapu-Lapu City officials together with Oarai City Mayor Kunii and his entourage.

The activity was also witnessed by vice-mayor Celsi Sitoy, newly elected Lone District Representative Cindi King-Chan, and some city councilors.       /rcg
