Drivers told, ‘Wait for JAO review’

By: Michelle Joy L. Padayhag October 26,2014 - 07:06 AM

THE regional Land Transportation and Franchising Regulatory Board (LTFRB) called on the Pagkakaisa ng mga Samahan ng Tsuper at Opereytor Nationwide (Piston) Cebu to wait for the results of a government review of Joint Administrative Order 2014-01.

Cuizon said there’s no problem if Piston Cebu holds its rally from 8 a.m to 6 p.m. tomorrow.

“But I hope public transportation won’t be affected. How about those who are going to work and school?,” he said. LTFRB board member Antonio Enrile Inton Jr. submitted the proposed revisions last week.

“There’s a total overhaul proposed revision of JAO. The operators and drivers will be contented in case it would be approved,” a source told Cebu Daily News.

Heavy fines
There is no specific timeline of the reviews and discussion of the proposed revision. Aside from the LTFRB, other transport agencies that reviewed JAO 2014-01 include the Land Transportation Office (LTO) and Department of Transportation and Communication (DOTC).

Operators and drivers organizations opposed the order due to heavy fines for violations.

Colorum bus operators are fined P1 million; truck and van operators, P200,000; sedan operators, P120,000; jeepney owners, P50,000; and motorcycle operators, P6,000.

The order covers violations such as refusal to convey passengers to their destination; overcharging; employing reckless, insolent, discourteous or arrogant drivers; operating PUVs with defective parts; using tampered taximeters; and trip cutting.

Greg Perez, Piston Cebu coordinator said 10 percent of public transportation will be paralyzed tomorrow.   He said the group wants government to scrap JAO 2014-01.

“We continue to work with the concerns of our drivers and operators from different provinces and regions,” Cuizon said.
