Youth volunteers sing songs for dead for fee

For a donation, three youth volunteers offered to sing songs for the dead at the Carreta Public Cemetery yesterday.

Sergio Java, Jumel Cecosana and Nicole Guno are youth volunteers of the Christian Missionary in Cebu City. They  are raising funds for an orphanage in time for Christmas.

“The money can also be used for a feeding program especially to those who are in need ” Java told Cebu Daily News. The three youth volunteers asked the families who visited their departed loved ones if they could sing songs for them.

Guno approached a woman who prayed in front of a tomb and told her, “Ma’am we will sing but this is for a cause.” The woman didn’t mind them at first as she was busy offering prayers and lighting candles.

Cecosana was about to strum the guitar strings, but the woman stopped and declined their offer. “We already expected that most of the people will refuse but it’s fine. This is part of what we are doing,” Cecosana said.

“The important thing  is that we have the initiative on how to help those people in need,” Java said.
