CEBU CITY, Philippines – Congressional representatives from Cebu City are hoping President Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ Marcos Jr. would be able to present his plans for ensuring food security in his first State of the Nation Address (SONA).

Representatives Cutie Del Mar (North District) and Edu Rama (South District), in separate messages, said they are looking forward to what the President had in store in terms of infrastructure projects, public transportation, and food security.

Del Mar said she hoped President Marcos Jr. would include solutions on how to improve commuting around the country.

“We need an infusion of public works to solve the traffic. We need a modern mass transit system to make travel time easier,” said Del Mar.

The congresswoman also said the President could give some assurance to farmers and members of the agricultural sector amid looming threats to food security, and inflation.

“We need his protection for our farmers who live hand to mouth,” Del Mar added.

“All Cebuanos are one in hoping the president’s plan succeeds. If he succeeds, the country succeeds,” she added.

Rama, for his part, also hoped that President Marcos Jr. can discuss his administration’s plans on food security, and the plight of farmers.

“We also look forward to listening kung unsa ang iyang gisugyot nga mga lakang aron ma sulbad ang mga kabalaka sa seguridad sa pagkaon, ug ang iyang pag garantiya sa accessibility sa mga umahan ngadto sa mga merkado,” Rama said.

He added that he wishes the President will be able to come up with policies to support farmers and improve the country’s agricultural industry.

President Marcos Jr. will be delivering his first SONA as the country’s 17th President at the Batasang Pambansa on Monday, July 25, 2022.
