Fuentes a huge underdog against Gonzales

ALA Promotions International chief Michael P. Aldeguer remains confident that his ward Rocky “Road Warrior” Fuentes will rock the boxing world this Saturday when the latter battles Ring Magazine and WBC Flyweight king Roman Gonzales of Nicaragua in Yokohama, Japan.

Aldeguer said that although Fuentes has been tagged the clear underdog against the undefeated Gonzales (40-0, 34 KOs), he believes Fuentes’ vast experience of fighting in Japan will be his main weapon.

Fuentes (35-7-2, 20 KOs) arrived in Japan last Sunday to acclimatize while Gonzales arrived there a week earlier.

“I admit that this will be a very tough fight for Fuentes. But I believe that he is capable of winning. We never know what will happen inside the ring. I think his vast experience will be his edge over the younger Gonzales,” said Aldeguer who will be watching the fight.

He bared that top notch American strength and conditioning trainer Nick Curson and boxing trainer Edito Villamor will be the corner men of Fuentes.

Curson meanwhile, echoed Aldeguer’s confidence.

“Rocky’s in great shape, he’s very ready even if the fight goes the full 12 rounds,” Curson said in an earlier interview.

Fuentes is a familiar figure in Japan’s loaded boxing scene having fought there for four times and defending his OPBF flyweight title three times against tough Japanese opponents.

Gonzalez, a 27-year-old Nicaraguan nicknamed “Chocolatito,” has stopped his past six opponents and is fresh from dethroning Akira Yaegashi last month via ninth-round knockout.

Fuentes, a 28-year-old Cebuano is coming from a controversial unanimous decision loss to IBF flyweight champion Amnat Ruenroeng last January in Thailand.
