Madrigal irked by mayor’s FB post

Former Capitol  security chief Loy Madrigal  last night fumed over a false report that he was arrested for estafa in the northern town of Daanbantayan, Cebu.

He denied the report posted on Facebook by his nemesis  Medellin Mayor Ricardo Ramirez.

“You don’t need to believe all  what he (Ramirez) says  about me because most of that are lies,” said Madrigal in a phone interview, who said he was considering filing a libel case against the mayor.

“I really don’t know why he hates me this much.”

Ramirez posted on his Facebook account that Madrigal got what he deserved.

“Gidakop ug gipusasan gahapon ang hambugerong dako didto sa Daanbantayan,” wrote the mayor, saying the arrest arose from a case of estafa filed by  APL Trading.

Madrigal said he was at home in San Remigio town last Wednesday because “I had visitors that day”.

CDN also called Daanbantayan Mayor Augusto Corro, who said there was no truth to the report.

APL Trading earlier demanded payment from the Cebu Provincial government for P51,665 worth of ammunition bought for the Capitol’s Civil Security Unit (CSU) and the province’s anti-illegal fishing task force.

The transaction was done by Madrigal in July this year or  a few months before his resignation last September 18.

However, Cebu Gov. Hilario Davide III said the province will not pay the bill since he didn’t sign for the purchase.

The governor said APL Trading should collect the payment from Madrigal, who is currently serving as the Bantay Dagat consultant of Talisay City.

When CDN called Ramirez to ask where he got the information, the mayor said he has an informant who has contact with Bobby Legaspi, the new security chief who replaced Madrigal.

Ethel Natera, Capitol information officer,   said there was no such report.

“I just talked to Bobby. He does not know anything. He was also surprised to hear about the alleged arrest,” Natera said.

PO3 George Banatasa, desk officer of Daanbantayan Police Station, said that based on their records,  no Madrigal was arrested in the town.

Madrigal was forced to resign from the Capitol  last September following a scandal over his relationship with a married secretary.  A photo of the couple seated cozily on a bench was posted online by Mayor Ramirez.
