A man was arrested after he allegedly tried to kill his mother and attempted to burn their house in barangay Sta. Cruz, Cebu City.
Facing attempted parricide and attempted arson charges is Jerry Lim, 44.
The man’s 69-year-old mother Victoria complained that her son had been using Nubain, a regulated painkiller.
Victoria, a widow, told police that last Wednesday morning, her son asked money from her which she turned down since she knew that her son would only use the money to buy Nubain.
Victoria said her son became unruly, took a chainsaw and threatened to kill her.
Victoria said while they were arguing, her son poured gasoline on a sofa and threatened to set the house on fire.
Barangay tanods happened to pass by the house and noticed the commotion.
The tanods called the police that led to the man’s arrest.
Victoria said her son was previously admitted in a drug rehabilitation center but returned to his vices when he was released.
