In celebration of the Cebuanos resiliency, Shangri-La Mactan, Cebu officially lighted three Christmas trees that are found on the hotel’s lobby last November 24.
This year’s Christmas trees are unique because these are adorned with materials that were made from remnants of Super Typhoon Odette that badly affected Cebu and other parts of the Visayas when it hit on December 16, 2021.

Shangri-La Mactan, Cebu General Manager Dave Junker; Lapu-Lapu City lone district Rep. Cindi King-Chan; Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Junar Chan; and Tourism Undersecretary Shalimar Tamano led the tree lighting ceremony. They were joined by some guests and hotel personnel.
This year’s theme is “Tropical Holidays.”
Shangri-La Mactan, Cebu’s Christmas tree is adorned with red and gold ornaments as the hotel management’s way of paying homage to the resilience and fierceness of Cebuanos, who never back down even during the most trying times. Some of its decorations were repurposed from remnants of Super Typhoon Odette.

Doing this is also aligned with one of Shangri-La’s core values, which is sustainability.
Adding the ‘weaves of hope’ as ornaments to the Christmas trees makes this year’s Christmas celebration even more meaningful.
Shangri-La Mactan partnered with the Women’s Association of Basawon (WAB) in Bantayan Island to make a change in their lives during the Christmas holidays and in the days to come. WAB members created the ‘weaves of hope’ that were used as the primary decorations of the hotel’s Christmas trees.
‘Weaves of hopes’ will also be sold at the hotel’s front desk for interested buyers. All proceeds from its sales will be donated to WAB to support their cause.
In his message, Junker thanked all the guests, their business partners and suppliers, and members of the Cebu media who shared the night with them.
