Titing Sayson and Lito Tenepre of the La Paloma Tennis Club in Labangon led the cast of the quarterfinalists in the premier level B+ in yesterday’s edition of the 2nd Baseline Open Doubles Tennis Tournament at the Baseline Tennis Courts.
The Sayson-Tenepre tandem bested the pair of Naga/Argao Team’s Bosing Romaguera and Bryan Kintanar, 8-3, to secure a quarterfinal seat in the tournament sponsored by Technifibre.
Atan Largo and Rere Legazpi of Team Naga City TC joined Tenepre and Sayson into the round of 16 in the B+ division after the former displayed a flawless game in blotting out Team Tuburan TC’s Chester and Roy Tabotabo, 8-0.
Also making it into the quarterfinals of the B+ division is the Sano/Popoy Team, which downed the pair of Team Baseline TC’s Dr. Rodolfo Curay and Ryan Kintanar, 8-4.
In the B- category, barging into the round of 16 are the pairs of Elizer Yac and Kit Castro of Baseline TC, who dominated the Henry-Nino Beltran tandem also of Baseline TC, 8-2, and the Papa Rey-Domino Cobarde pair of Team Talamban TC, who ousted the Baseline TC pair of Poloy Atillo and Nestor Senior, 8-6.
In the C+ division, the Baseline TC pair of John Cabada and Larry Pescadero zoomed into the quarterfinal round after surviving a closely fought match to eliminate the Talamban TC duo of Chong Goy and Joel Tambok.
Cabada and Pescadero were tied in a 7-7 draw by Tambok and Chong Goy before the host team’s representatives rocketed off to a 7-5 victory in the tiebreaker to win the match and advance into the next round.
A total of 13 teams coming from different parts of Cebu are seeing action in the tilt, which also features the C- category and is organized by the Baseline Tennis Club headed by its president (Ret.) Col. Eulogio Albesa, Jr., tournament chairman Dr. Curay, vice president Nestor Senior and tournament directors Joel Cortes, Richie Bacalso and Tenepre.
The other participating squads are the Talisay Tennis Club, Mandaue City TC, Labangon TC, Lapu-Lapu TC, Minglanilla TC, Compostela TC, Carcar TC, Citi Green TC and Pardo TC.
