THE 2014 women’s defending champions of the Cebu Schools Athletics Foundation (Cesafi) beach volleyball Southwestern University (SWU) Lady Cobras will try to retain their crown when this year’s edition of the tournament blasts off starting today at the Aznar Coliseum along Aznar Road in Urgello.
Matches for the women’s division will start at 7 a.m. with the University of Southern Philippines-Foundation (USP-F) Lady Panthers taking on the University of San Jose Recoletos (USJ-R) Lady Jaguars. The Lady Cobras will take on the University of San Carlos (USC) Lady Warriors in the second game.
SWU women’s head coach Dave Arreza, the former USJ-R Jaguars spiking ace, told Cebu Daily News earlier that they will try to hold on to their title this year as the core of their players from last year and during the recent 17th Nestea Beach Volleyball Battle of Champions in Boracay last May remains the same.
The Lady Cobras beach volleyball team will parade the formidable duo of Tanjay City, Negros Oriental-native Floremel Rodriguez and Therese Ray Ramas.
Rodriguez and Ramas completed their dominance of the Nestea tournament last year as they shot down the University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) Lady Panthers’ Jackyline Tada-tada and Rochelle Rica with an easy 21-13, 21-17 straight sets victory in their championship game.
