ILOILO CITY—The Kalibo International Airport in Aklan resumed operations at 1:45 a.m. Wednesday after an Air Asia plane that overshot the runaway was removed and towed to the ramp.

Cynthia Asperas, the airport manager, told the Inquirer in a phone interview that airport personnel removed the plane about 1 a.m., more than seven hours after the plane overshot Runway 23 at 5:43 p.m. Tuesday.

Air Asia Flight EZD 272 from Manila to Kalibo was carrying 153 passengers and six crew members.

None of the passengers and crew was injured but had to deplane using emergency chutes.

Hundreds of passengers were stranded due to the suspension of airport operations until the plane was removed from the tarmac.

Investigators of the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines will investigate the cause of the overshooting, according to Asperas.
