The much awaited 2015 Sinulog Fun Run finally kicks off today with around a thousand runners expected to answer the starting gun at the Cebu City Sports Center.
The fun run was supposed to be held last Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2014, but was moved due to the bad weather brought by typhoon Seniang.
Today’s event will be a 5-kilometer race that will use the route of the Sinulog carousel.
Some of Cebu’s top runners will be joining the race, including reigning Milo Marathon queen Mary Joy Tabal.
Tabal, who was on a roll last year, winning 19 titles, will be joined by his coach John Philip Dueñas.
Michelle Gilbuena and the vaunted Kenyan runners are also expecting to join the short race, which offers P45,000 worth of cash prizes. Cash prizes will also be given to the runner with the best costume and biggest running club.
The race is expected to have a festive mood since some runners will be wearing costumes and sound systems will be playing Sinulog beats along the route. /correspondent dale g. rosal
