Cebuano martial law opponent passes away at 79

Cebuano martial law detainee Ribomapil “Dodong” Holganza Sr. passed away due to cardiac arrest Sunday.

Holganza, former secretary general of the Pilipino Democratic Party – Laban and a staunch critic of the late president Ferdinand Marcos who fought martial law.

Holganza and his son Ribomapil Jr. were detained on December 25, 1982 after they were linked to a planned rebellion against the Marcos regime and were later known as the Christmas Day detainees. They were released in July 1985.

In 2010, Weslasco City in Texas passed a resolution declaring every September 30th as the Ribomapil Holganza Day in recognition of his role in restoring freedom and democracy in the Philippines.
