Some of the country’s top runners will compete in the 5th SM2SM run tomorrow morning starting at SM City-Cebu at the North reclamation Area in Cebu City.

The top runners will be part of the 5,300 expected to show up for the running event organized by the SM Prime Holdings Inc. for the benefit of the Cebu News Workers Foundation, Inc. (CENEWOF), the Children of Cebu Foundation, Inc. and the SM Cares Village in Bogo City, northern Cebu.

Leading the list of pro runners are Milo Marathon king Rafael Poliquit Jr. of Davao City and Cebuana Mary Joy Tabal, the two-time and reigning Milo Marathon queen. Both will be competing in the premier 21-kilometer race.

Also joining are five-time Milo Marathon champion Eduardo Buenavista of South Cotabato, John Philip Dueñas, Davaoeño Elmer Bartolo and Cebuano Noel Tillor.

Other noted runners joining are triathlete couple Noy and Amale Jopson, international marathoner and Liloan mayor Duke Frasco, Marget Fernan-Villarica and marathoner Nia Durano-Aldeguer.

The official race route will pass through some of Cebu City’s architectural landmarks at the South Road Properties (SRP) such as the Chapel of San Pedro Calungsod and the soon-to-open SM Seaside City Cebu mall towards neighboring Talisay City.

Aside from the 21k, the race will also feature 12k, 6k and 3k distances.

Around P500,000 worth of cash prizes are up for grabs for the winning runners. Non-winners will also get a chance to win in the raffle that will be held during the awarding ceremonies at the Northwing of SM City-Cebu.

Raffle prizes include a brand-new Suzuki motorcycle, five sets of 42-inch flat screen TVs, HP laptop computers and four tablets, among others.
