MERALCO’S hardworking import Josh Davis was carried off the court on a stretcher in the second quarter and San Miguel was quick to capitalize as the Beermen blew out the Bolts, 102-86, yesterday in the 40th PBA Commissioner’s Cup in Cagayan de Oro City.

The Beermen finally registered their first win in five outings, while dealing Meralco its first loss after five straight wins to start the tournament.

Davis suffered a bad fall after he leapt to challenge June Mar Fajardo.

Davis lay on the floor for several minutes before he was carried off the court.

The incident happened with the game tied at 30-all in the second period.

The Beermen went on to lead at the half, 45-40, then built double-digit leads in the final half as the Bolts were unable to recover from Davis’ early exit.

Newly acquired import  Arizona Reid paced the Beermen with 29 points while Fajardo piled up 21 points and 22 rebounds.

DENZEL BOWLES IN

Meanwhile, Denzel Bowles marks his return with the Purefoods Star Hotshots (4-2) when the defending champions face the Barangay Ginebra Kings (2-3) in today’s main game at the Araneta Coliseum.

Bowles was measured at less than 6-feet-9 yesterday, making him eligible to play.

Bowles replaced Daniel Orton, who was sent home after his post-game outburst in Purefoods’ loss to Kia last Wednesday that drew him a hefty P250,000 fine.
