Kaking hands Chef Chang first defeat in Cecaba hoop tournament

BATCH 1998-Kaking survived a tightly contested match, outlasting erstwhile unbeaten Batch 2007-Chef Chang in overtime, 67-63, last Thursday in the Cebu Eastern College Alumni Basketball Association (Cecaba) 14th Dr. Chen Lieh Fu Memorial Cup at the CEC Gym.

Eric So fired 20 points, Elvis Evangelista finished with 18 markers and skipper Robinson Yap tallied 13 points for the Batch ’98, which nailed its second win in four games.

Batch 2007 brought a 47-44 lead into the fourth quarter but Batch ’98 charged back strong in the fourth and forced a five-minute extension.

Batch ’98 hung tough in the critical moments of the overtime period, where it outscored its opponent, 9-5, to seal the scrambling win.

Juan Carlo Espada finished with a game-high 22 points and grabbed eight rebounds, Raymark Ong collected 13 points and Robin Chu had 10 for Batch 2007, which absorbed its first loss in the three games.

In the other game, Batch 1988-Dewfoam escaped with its own thrilling win after it nosed out Batch 2003-Dimsum Frito, 57-53.

Gregorio Aguilar finished with 14 points and 10 rebounds for Batch ’88 (2-1).
