Carcar shooting: Toll fee collector shot dead by unidentified gunman

CEBU CITY, Philippines – A toll fee collector of a private land was killed after he was allegedly shot by an unidentified assailant while he was working in Barangay Napo, Carcar City, Cebu on Wednesday noon, August 23, 2023.

Police Staff Sergeant Regie Amad, officer in charge, in his report, identified the victim as 52 year-old Cerilo De Asis Mangyao, married, and a resident of Upper Kalangyawon Barangay Napo, Carcar City, Cebu.

Personnel of the Carcar City Police Station received a call from a concerned citizen at around 12:00 noon about an alleged shooting incident in the area, according to the police report.

Responding officers immediately went to the scene and conducted an initial investigation on the incident.

Amad stated in his report that the initial investigation revealed that at around 11:40 a.m., the victim was attending to his daily work as a property toll fee collector of a private land when an unidentified assailant allegedly shot him multiple times.

The attack resulted to the victim’s instantaneous death, said Amad.

His report also showed that police personnel recovered from the crime scene five fired cartridge case of a .45 caliber pistol.

Carcar City is a fifth-class component city located approximately 40 kilometers southeast of Cebu City.
