Was murdered girl in Toledo raped? Cops to find out on Aug. 29
Toledo police say autopsy results of girl found naked, dead in ravine to be released on Tuesday
CEBU CITY, Philippines — The police in Toledo City are waiting for the results of the autopsy that was conducted to determine if 17-year-old Sharmaine Flores was raped on the day she was killed on August 25, 2023.
Police Staff Sergeant Richard Oberez, investigator of the Lutopan Police Station in Toledo who is handling Flores’s case, told CDN Digital on Sunday, August 27, that the official results would be available on Tuesday, August 29, because it would be a holiday on Monday, August 28.
Autopsy results out on Tuesday morning
Oberez said that they would get autopsy results of the murdered girl from the crime lab of the Regional Forensic Unit on Tuesday morning.
It can be recalled that Flores’ undergarment on her lower body was pulled down to her knees when her body was found indicating she was possibly raped.
Moreover, Oberez said that they were convinced that the suspect was Jonathan “Atan” Sugabo, 29, a resident of Barangay Bunga, Toledo City.
T-shirt pointed to suspect
Sugabo was arrested on Friday afternoon, August 25, after he was tagged as the suspect in the murdered girl’s case.
He said that during their investigation, they recovered a T-shirt worn by Sugabo on the day of the incident which gave them the lead that Sugabo was indeed the suspect.
“Na recover namo ang T-shirt nga maoy gisul-ob sa suspect sa time nga nakit-an siya didto sa ravine bitaw sa nabutangan sa biktima. Ni-emerge siya (suspect). Maoy pagsaka nya naigo siya sa suga sa motor (sa eyewitness),” he said.
(We recovered the T-shirt that the suspect wore at the time that he was seen there at the ravine where the victim was found. He (the suspect) emerged (from the area). He came (from the ravine) when he was hit by the lights of the motorcycle (of the eyewitness) passing by the area.)
Murder case to be filed
Oberez said that they recovered the T-shirt from the house of the suspect.
Meanwhile, a murder case will be filed against the suspect on Tuesday, August 29, since it is a holiday on Monday, August 28.
