THE VAUNTED University of Cebu (UC) Webmasters table tennis squad will start their campaign in the 7th Flexible International Table Tennis Championships today at the Glorietta Mall in Makati City.

Headed by veteran table tennis coach and licensed International Table Tennis Federation coach Jessica Honoridez, the team flew to Manila yesterday. It is composed of Dannel Jay Tormis, Lemuel Agbon, Val Stephen Jaca and Diana Oliverio.

Honoridez decided to add another player in John Vincent Cabaluna, a 15-year-old graduating high school student who won a gold medal in the recently concluded Central Visayas Regional Athletic Association meet in Balamban town, western Cebu.

She said Cabaluna needs more exposure before he competes in the Palarong Pambansa this summer in Tagum City. She also said Cabaluna has already showed a lot of potential and his development in the sport is fast.

The tournament will be featuring the best collegiate table tennis teams from China, Korea, Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia.

UC’s administration recently approved the budget for the team’s stint in this tournament.

“We thank the school for giving us financial support to compete in this prestigious tournament,” Honoridez said.
