BATCH 80S/90S/2011-Koi Herbal kept its immaculate slate intact after it disposed of Batch 1998-Kaking, 82-73, last Saturday in the Cebu Eastern College Alumni Basketball Association (Cecaba) 14th Dr. Chen Lieh Fu Memorial Cup at the CEC Gym.
The win shoved Batch ’80s/90s/2011 to the solo top spot in the team standings as it claimed its fourth win in as many outings. The only other unbeaten team left in the 14-team field is defending champion BMC Hospital Systems-Hainanese Delights, which has a 3-0 (win-loss) card.
Paul Cabellon and Stephen Tan led the charge for Batch ’80s/90s/2011 with 22 and 20 points, respectively. Raymond Sypongco chipped in 16 markers, while playmaker Joel Chan had a solid all-around game with 11 points, nine assists, seven rebounds and three steals.
Meanwhile, Batch ’90s/2001-AJL Surplus once again rode on another strong performance by Paul Gabatan to hack out a thrilling 69-68 win over Batch 1988-Dewfoam.
Gabatan is proving to be a scoring machine as he exploded for a game-high 36 points to lead Batch ’90s/2001’s third straight win and improve to 3-1 (win-loss).
Gabatan also had five rebounds, two assists and block. He was ably backed by Peter Dela Torre, who tallied 15 points./EDITORIAL ASSISTANT CALVIN D. CORDOVA
