CEBU CITY, Philippines—All is set for the  2nd Councilor Rey Gealon Open Scrabble Tournament on Saturday, September 9, 2023, at the SM Seaside City Cebu.

The cash-rich scrabble tournament returns after its inaugural staging last May 8 at the same venue.

The inaugural tournament attracted over a hundred elite word wizards, some from Manila and other parts of the country.

The tournament is organized by Councilor Gealon, who has been  promoting sports such as scrabble and chess in Cebu, hoping to discover talents.

This time, the scrabble tournament won’t have an open category. Instead, it will have high school and elementary categories.

The tournament will follow a Lexicon Collins Scrabble Words 21 for one hour per game.

The champion in the high school category will take home P5,000 plus a medal, while the second and third placers receive P3,500 and 2,500, respectively. The fourth placer gets P1,500 and P500 for the fifth placer.

Meanwhile, the top five elementary category word wizards will receive P4,000, P3,000, P2,000, P1,000, and P700.

All the top five winners in each category will receive medals and cash prizes. Also, special awards will receive cash prizes.

The tournament registration is on-site on the day of the scrabble tournament.
