Naga settlers seek continued stay in plant lot

By: Victor Anthony V. Silva March 10,2015 - 12:29 PM

About 51 families of barangay Tinaan, City of Naga, asked Mayor Valdemar Chiong to facilitate their continued stay in a lot owned by a cement plant in sitio Sindulan.

Several settlers of sitio Sindulan attended a dialogue with Mayor Chiong and representatives of APO Cemex Philippines, a cement producer and marketer based in the City of Naga.

“I only found out about this last Friday, and so I called the (cement) plant’s director and legal counsel,” Mayor Chiong said. A court ruled that APO Cemex Philippines is the rightful owner of the lot.

The property is part of the factory’s 192-hectare property in barangay Tinaan.

Chiong said APO filed a case against 10 families occupying the lot that would have been used by the company then.

But the company could not file a complaint for eviction of the 10 without affecting all the other families living in the area.

Chiong advised the residents to file a motion for reconsideration before the court.
