Workers in Central Visayas to get P33 daily pay raise starting next month

CEBU CITY, Philippines — Workers in Central Visayas will receive an early Christmas gift starting next month.

This is after the Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board in Central Visayas (RTWPB-7) approved a P33 increase in the daily wage of workers from the private sector.

The new minimum wage rates will now range from P415 to P468 for non-agriculture establishments.

Workers in Class A cities

In the previous wage order of the agency, which took effect on June 14, 2022, the daily minimum wage in class A cities and municipalities was at P435.

With the new wage order, the minimum wage in class A cities and municipalities will increase to P468 per day.

Class A cities and municipalities include the cities of Carcar, Cebu, Danao, Lapu-Lapu, Mandaue, Naga, Talisay and Municipalities of Compostela, Consolacion, Cordova, Liloan, Minglanilla, and San Fernando or also known as the expanded Metro Cebu area.

Class B, C cities

Meanwhile, for class B cities and municipalities, which consist of Bais, Bayawan, Bogo, Canlaon, Dumaguete, Guihulngan, Tagbilaran, Tanjay, and Toledo, their daily wage will now increase to P430 from P397.

For class C municipalities, that were not included in class A and class B, their new daily wage will increase to P420 from P387.

“The wage increase prescribed herein shall apply to all minimum wage earners in the private sector within the region, regardless of their position, designation or status and irrespective of the method by which their wages are paid,” the wage order reads.

Meanwhile, for agriculture and non-agriculture with less than 10 workers, their daily minimum wage will now range from P415 to P458, depending on area classification.

The order was approved on September 5, 2023, and will take effect on October 1, 2023.
