MANDAUE CITY, Cebu — A portion of the southbound lane of Osmeña Boulevard, located close to the Cebu Capitol, will be temporarily closed to vehicular traffic for 20 days, starting on Sunday, September 24, until October 14.

Road closure was needed for the ongoing construction of the Capitol bus station for the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT), the Cebu City Transportation Office (CCTO) said in an advisory that was posted on its official Facebook page on Friday evening, Sept. 22.

CCTO: Affected areas

The affected portion of Osmeña Boulevard is from the corner of N. Escario Street to J. Avila Street, CCTO said.

“The Cebu City government, through the CCTO is asking for the public’s understanding and patience for the inconvenience that the road closure and diversion in relation to the Cebu BRT Project may result to,” it added.

Drivers of southbound vehicles, especially the public utility jeepneys (PUJs), are advised to use the diversion routes identified by CCTO.

Northbound lane won’t be affected

However, CCTO said that vehicle traffic on the highway’s northbound lane will remain uninterrupted.

“In order to ensure a smooth flow of traffic for the southbound vehicles, both private and public, on-street pay parking services along Don Gil Garcia Street will be suspended temporarily for the whole duration of the aforementioned road closure,” CCTO said in its advisory.

“For the riding-public, PUV Stops will be installed in strategic areas along Don Gil Garcia Street to ensure the safety of their embarkation and disembarkation to and from PUVs. As such, all PUV drivers are directed to follow the traffic regulations to prevent traffic congestion,” it added.
