Finance bureau to probe CCMC fund use

By: Doris C. Bongcac March 13,2015 - 11:57 PM

A complaint about the realignment of  funds set aside for the Cebu City Medical Center (CCMC), is being looked into by the  Bureau of Local Government Finance (BLGF).

The complaint of lawyer  Remelio Delute  who questioned the realignment of funds made  in the absence of Cebu City Council authority was referred to the BLGF under the Department of Finance.

Finance Undersecretary Carlo Carag directed BLGF OIC executive director Salvador del Castillo to “investigate” and “take appropriate action” on the complaint. He asked for a report within 15 days from receipt of the order.

A copy of Carag’s Feb. 4 letter was received by Delute on March 12.

Delute, a  registered senior citizen of barangay Basak San Nicolas earlier questioned delays in the release of P12,000 annual assistance which the city government promised its senior citizens in 2014.

Of the amount, only P10,000 was released in the same year. The balance of P2,000 was distributed  in January 2015.

Delute asked the office of the Deputy Ombudsman for the Visayas to conduct a fact-finding inquiry on the use of P300 million from the CCMC trust fund in the  release of  P3,000 cash assistance to seniors on Dec.  21, 2014  despite lack of Cebu City Council authority for fund realignment.
