CEBU CITY, Philippines — Close to 90,000 eligible senior citizens in Cebu City will receive their cash assistance on Friday, September 29, the Office of Senior Citizens Affairs (OSCA) said on Wednesday.

Vicente Esmeña, former head of OSCA and now the head of the Barangay Affairs Office confirmed to CDN Digital the cash distribution on Friday.

Esmeña, who remains part of the senior citizens council, said on Wednesday that the eligible senior citizens could claim their P3,000 cash aid for the third quarter this year.

The third quarter covers the months of July, August, and September.

He said that the schedule for the release of the cash assistance was based on the directives from the Commission on Elections (Comelec) because of the election ban.

“Nag-agad man gud ta sa atoang Comelec nga exemption kay tungod man naglikay ta sa election ban mao nang nananghid pa ta sa Comelec (para) tagaan ta’g exemption. Nakuha ni Mayor (Michael Rama) gahapon sa hapon,” he said.

As of March 2023, the city has 88,564 seniors who are qualified to receive the cash aid.

Comparing the number from the previous quarter, Esmeña said that this quarter’s recipients increased.

“Nisaka kay di man nato kalikayan pwerte man gyung daghana mo senior, halos matag adlaw. Diri sa atong opisina, daghan kaayong mang-apply,” he stated.

Lawyer Paulo Manit, executive director of OSCA, told CDN Digital on Wednesday that the eligible citizens will be 89,997 from the city’s North and South Districts.

However, as of writing, he could not provide the breakdown from each district since he said he was still on the field and he did not have the breakdown with him.

Cebu City senior citizens are provided a monthly allowance of P1,000 released every three months of P3,000 per quarter.  /rcg
