CEBU CITY, Philippines— Residents in Sitio Tevil in Barangay Tejero Cebu City who were affected by a fire on Thursday, September 28, 2023, were baffled when a tarpaulin with an image of Our Lady of Fatima allegedly changed background after the fire.
The fire started at 1:39 p.m. on Thursday, burning down 23 houses, and partially damaging five more. It displaced 35 families or 150 residents.

While those affected were worried about how to recover from the fire, some were talking about a so-called miracle.
Some residents told CDN Digital the day after the fire that a tarpaulin bearing the image of Our Lady of Fatima changed background color from white to brown. Apart from that, a shadow of what sees to be an image of Jesus Christ also appeared behind the image of Our Lady of Fatima.

Residents believed that the change in color was brought about by the heat from the fire. But what makes it unusual is the image of the Virgin Mary remained the same and that another ‘shadow’ appeared in the background.
Residents also believe that the tarp helped save the house where it was placed as the fire didn’t reach it.
When checked by this writer, it is clear that the tarp does have a blurred image behind the Virgin Mary.
As of this writing, though, no one can show a photo of the tarp when it had a plain white background.
