CEBU CITY, Philippines — Elite long-distance runner Artjoy Torregosa added another title to her vast collection after ruling the 21-kilometer female open division of the Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP) Run 2023: Calma Lang held on Sunday, October 1, 2023.

Earlier, Torregosa, who is also a varsity athlete of the University of San Carlos (USC), ruled the women’s division of the 21k division of the National Milo Marathon Iloilo leg held last September 24.

On Sunday, Torregosa flexed her winning form anew as she topped the 21k race held at the Robinsons Galleria Cebu, with a time of one hour 34 minutes and 49 seconds.

Bohol Marathon champion Kay Cundangan grabbed second place in 1:38.38, while Wendel Enerio rounded off the top three in the 21k female division in 1:52.49.

Meanwhile, Torregosa’s teammate Jhon Marc Dizon lorded the male 21k open race in 1:14.05, followed by fellow Carolinian Jessie Abelgos in 1:15.23. Florendo Lapiz of Spectrum Runners Club landed at third in 1:15.36.

In the 21k lawyer division, Benjamin Uy and Luigine Chan emerged as champions in the male and female categories, respectively.

Uy clocked in 1:45.45, while Chan crossed the finish line in 2:02.51. Trailing Uy for the second and third places were Eugene Lawrenz Orbita (1:50.19), and Andrew Estimo (1:51.38).

Rei La Bongahoy-Bernaldez (2:13.23) and Cherry Llorad (2:20.50) captured the second and third places, respectively, in the distaff side of the 21k female lawyers category.

On the other hand, Spectrum Runners Club’s Prince Joey Lee (45:10) and Evamie Villarin (52:04) ruled the 12k open category.

Joining them on top of the podium were Hazel Caraballe (1:04.04) and Jean-Paul Francisco (58:57) as the champions for the 12k lawyers category.

The 6k open top placers were University of Cebu’s (UC) Asia Paraase (23:46) and Ariel Saballa (20:31). In the 6k lawyers’ category, Karl Rainer Barcenas (39:22) and Marydith Boltiador-Orio (1:34.10) captured the top spots.

Meanwhile, Gretchen Sambo (12:06) and Kent Lloyd Lato (10:37) topped the 3k open, while Ron Christian Eupeña (24:36) and Hannah Mae Blanco (23:44) won the 3k lawyers division first place.

According to IBP Cebu president Michael Francis Hubahib, they were able to amass 1,700 runners which was a great indication of their running event’s success.

“Overall it was a very successful run considering it was our first time to organize such a big event. Daghan kaayo mi nakuha nga good feedback from the runners and running groups. So far, wala man mi kadungog anything negative, but mo admit mi nga naa pa jud need to improve, sige lang, first time paman. After this event, we will consider holding this run yearly,” said Hubahib.

With the success of the IBP Run 2023: Calma Lang, they’re already targeting October 6, 2024, as the tentative date for their next edition.
