An organization for lesbians, gays, bisexuals and transgenders (LGBT) was launched today at San Fernando town in southern Cebu.

The San Fernando Organization LGBT Initiative for Democracy (SOLID) is the first LGBT organization in San Fernando that advocates equal rights. The launching opened with a motorcade that was attended by 50 members.

Junard Abalos, SOLID president told Cebu Daily News that their organization will help its members in raising concerns especially on violence and discrimination at their local government unit (LGU).

San Fernando Vice Mayor Mico Canoy said they urged the LGBT community in the town to organize themselves.

“We also encourage them to process the accreditation of their ogranization so that it will also be recognized by the council,” Canoy said.

The organization will also give free orientations to members especially on their rights.
