CEBU CITY, Philippines—Teachers are indeed the second parents in a child’s life, rising early to prepare for class and meeting their students’ every need with dedication.
Students often express their gratitude and love in heartfelt ways, especially during Teachers’ Day.
Take for example these kids from Oroquieta City, who chose to forgo traditional gifts like cakes and flowers to give on Teachers’ Day. Instead, they gave their teacher a sack of rambutan fruit, which they themselves harvested from the trees surrounding their school.
Irecor Dela Cerna Abuton, a dedicated teacher of seven years, shared this heartwarming moment on her Facebook account, a memory she’ll cherish throughout her teaching career.
“The 3 pupils suddenly asked, “Maam kaon ka rambutan?” [I] answered “kaon, kalami ana”. Na shock q and the rest of the teachers, ky sinako nga rambutan ang gida sa mga bata. Actually, all throughout the celebration of the teacher’s month, the pupils have shared to us every day various fresh fruits (lanzones, mangostene, marang,) locally found in our barangay,” she said.

These grade four pupils from Dolipos Alto Elementary School in Oroquieta City—Norwin Ordineza, Julian Cagamcam, and Sef Alexander Sareta—demonstrate that even a simple act of thoughtfulness can have a profound impact.
Their gesture showcases the depth of their love and appreciation for their second parents at school.
“We are truly grateful for their generosity and thoughtfulness. Their gifts may not look like one of those fancy gifts, but we surely know that they are wrapped with their genuine love and care for us teachers. They make us feel cherished and valued,” she added.
Let’s extend our heartfelt appreciation to all teachers and give a special round of applause to these remarkable kids!
Kudos to all teachers and kudos to these kids too!
