Cebu City Jail, CPDRC ensure water supply for inmates
Both the Cebu City Jail and the Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center (CPDRC) voiced concern over their water supply since repairs on the pipes leading to their deep well in Sudlon, Lahug are unfinished.
Cebu City Jail Warden Johnson Calub said they are relying on the water rations they receive from the Metropolitan Cebu Water District (MCWD) and the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP).
“Since March 12 last Thursday, the pump that helps send water to our facility from the deep-well was not repaired. They’ve been in use for 10 years so it should be replaced,” Calub said.
Both the Cebu City Jail and the CPDRC are located in upper barangay Guadalupe.
Calub said they were told that repairs started last Saturday and will end at 3 p.m. today.
“We already bought a replacement worth P82,000 for the pump and the one repairing it has assured us that everything will be done as early as possible,” Calub said.
Vice Mayor Edgardo Labella ordered the BFP and MCWD to daily deliver three trucks of water for the more than 2,000 inmates at Cebu City Jail.
The CPDRC uses a metal tank outside the facility to supply their inmates.
“The water tank can hold 100 drums of water,” CPDRC security consultant Marco Toral.
The CPDRC reservoir holds 15,000 liters of water for the CPDRC’s more than 2,000 inmates.
Toral said their supply is adequate for consumption, sanitation and kitchen needs. He said they can also supply the Cebu City Jail with water should they ask for it.
