CEBU CITY, Philippines—The Cebu City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (CCDRRMO) is requested to issue warnings during flash floods to prevent accidents during flooding.

Cebu City Councilor Rey Gealon proposed the resolution during the City’s regular session on Wednesday, October 11, 2023.

Gealon stated that there is a need to alert residents during flash floods to avert accidents in the event of floods, especially with the constant heavy rains and rampant flooding in Cebu.

The proposed resolution comes after two people in separate areas of Cebu, outside the jurisdiction of Cebu City, died on September 20 due to flood incidents.

“There must be a proactive measure to warn those living in flood-prone areas. One life lost is one too many,” Councilor Rey Gealon said.

Evacuating them at the soonest possible time is the way to go, Gealon added.
