CEBU CITY, Philippines — Cebu City Councilor Mary Ann Delos Santos is requesting the Cebu City Transportation Office (CCTO)  to review the traffic scheme in the junction of Ramos Street and Mango Avenue in Cebu City.

In her proposed resolution during the council’s regular session on Wednesday, October 11, Delos Santos said that the junction of Ramos Street and Mango Avenue, which is technically General Maxilom Avenue, used to be available for left-turn when coming from the north going to the south.

According to her, the traffic flow used to be controlled by a traffic light.

“At present, all vehicles coming from Mango Avenue could no longer turn left to Ramos Street, but instead fully traverse the Fuente Osmeña circle and back to turn right to Ramos (Street), travelling approximately about 450 meters at an average of 2 minutes,” Delos Santos said.

Moreover, she added that the scheme has caused more vehicular traffic volume along the Fuente Osmeña circle, which can result in the vehicles spending more travel time going to Ramos Street from Mango Avenue.

Besides the travel time, she said it could add more fuel consumption, especially with the ongoing Bus Rapid Transport system construction along Osmeña Boulevard, at certain times of day.

“There is a need for the CCTO to review the traffic scheme in that junction of Ramos Street and Mango Avenue, and just accordingly, such as allowing vehicles from Mango to turn left to Ramos, taking into consideration the volume of vehicles at different times of the day and the amount of time to traverse the said thoroughfares,” Delos Santos stated.

Meanwhile, she also acknowledged in her proposed resolution that the CCTO is tasked to implement traffic laws, rules, and ordinances within Cebu City, and the transportation office has the expertise to solve concerns on traffic situations.
